Happy 11th annual Sysadmin Day. Once again I get to celebrate it as a sysadmin. I also get to celebrate it by starting the workday 2 hours before midnight...
I also get to celebrate by taking my baby for playtime at the gym. It'll be a great day :).
Author Tom Limoncelli has collected his Time Management for System Administrators videos in one place. Watch the videos, read the book.
System administrators have abnormal time and task management needs. Tom does a great job of addressing those along with the normal time management stuff.
I recommand Time Management for System Administrators as a supplimental book for my system administration classes and plan to start using some of Tom's videos in class.
There's a post on the PLUG site about a paid Linux internship in Scottsdale.
###
A Scottsdale company is looking for someone to fill a paid Linux Internship. This requires knowledge in Red Hat based distros with a "nice to have" in LAMP type setups. The candidate would report directly or perhaps indirectly, to Mike Ballon; the position does have a good possibility of becoming full time.

ABLEconf is the brand new Free Software conference for Arizona. Our goal is to introduce Free Software such as GNU/Linux, Firefox, Thunderbird, the GIMP, Inkscape and OpenOffice.org to the general public. We'll also have geek stuff like programming and storage and toys and games :).
The inaugural ABLEconf event is being held on Software Freedom Day, Saturday, September 20th 2008, at the University for Advancing Technology (UAT) from 10:00 to 17:00.
The schedule shows a variety of talks as well as continental breakfast.
There is no cost to attend ABLEconf and no need to pre-register.
A coalition of Arizona Free Software user groups are proud to announce the 1st annual Arizona Business and Liberty Experience Conference.
ABLE Conf is a Free Software conference organized by The League of Professional System Administrators Arizona Chapter, the Phoenix Linux Users' Group, the Ubuntu Arizona LoCo Team, the Phoenix BSD Users' Group, Teens for Linux, the Tucson Free Unix Group, the SMLUG, the Linux Users' Group of Yavapi, the Arizona State University Linux Users' Group, and DeVry Linux Users' Group.
Some PLUG and LOPSA-US-AZ members will be meeting to play paintball at noon on June 14th. The event is open to anyone who wants to join us. We can get up to 30 people on the group reservation, but the facility can accomodate more.
See the Xtreme Pursuit group rate page to see what you get for $25. We'll certainly be needing to buy more ammo as well.
2007's System Administrator Appreciation Day is here. I had planned on taking our sysadm to lunch. As often happens to system administrators, he got hit by some issues and isn't getting lunch today :(.
As a recovering system administrator (currently working as a developer), I understand the interrupt driven environment. I also want to help our environment be less interrupt driven :).
Give your local System Administrators a membership to LOPSA and nominate them for sysadmin of the year if they're doing a great job.
Today, 14Nov2006, LOPSA is having its one year anniversary!
Congrats to LOPSA for all of its accomplishments in just one year.
Thanks to all the volunteers ( and let's not forget that the LOPSA board members are also all vounteers ) who've worked so hard to make LOPSA a success! Thanks also to the sponsors who've supported LOPSA and all its many activities.
LOPSA formed and immediately built active mailing lists with lots of good sysadm content. A couple of weeks later LOPSA had a strong presence at LISA. Many LOPSA members actively work to make LISA happen, so that was no big surprise :).
Chris is writing a blog of LOPSA's Sysadmin Days Phoenix.
Today is sysadm day, so remember to thank your system administrators.
System administrators are professionals who work many thankless hours keeping the computing infrastructure working.
Sysadms don't get free trips to Hawaii for meeting quotas, don't get company cards to use for happy hours and generally don't get to come in late the day after working late.
Sysadms do get paged at all hours of the day and night ( not to mention weekends and holidays ), do get yelled at by people because something broke and do get to work long hours because someone else broke something.
