ABLEconf is almost here

ABLEconf is the brand new Free Software conference for Arizona. Our goal is to introduce Free Software such as GNU/Linux, Firefox, Thunderbird, the GIMP, Inkscape and OpenOffice.org to the general public. We'll also have geek stuff like programming and storage and toys and games :).

The inaugural ABLEconf event is being held on Software Freedom Day, Saturday, September 20th 2008, at the University for Advancing Technology (UAT) from 10:00 to 17:00.

OpenOffice.org sold out!

The OpenOffice.org class at MCC is 100% full. Doubly-so, actually.

It was supposed to be limited to a half-size class, but it has a full class of students.

Other Free Software classes at a variety of community colleges in the valley are also doing well.

Fall Free Software classes

The Fall semester starts next week for the community colleges. Lots of Free Software classes being offered.

Update: changed the URL to include full classes and not specify the semester. It seems to default to the current semester.

Here are the results for a search for Linux that was netting 42 classes and 17 different courses.

Paintball was fun

Paintball was fun. We had a mix of people. It was also a good opportunity to give Kevin a bit of a send off and hope it's the last time he's shot at in the next few years.

tunys was in to represent the Avondale Stammtisch and schlepped his Lojban book with him. We should've gotten him to yell out war cries in Lojban :).

The indoor facility is nice and the appropriate place for summer games in Phoenix, but we should try one of the outdoor facilities in late Fall.

Geek Paintball

Some PLUG and LOPSA-US-AZ members will be meeting to play paintball at noon on June 14th. The event is open to anyone who wants to join us. We can get up to 30 people on the group reservation, but the facility can accomodate more.

See the Xtreme Pursuit group rate page to see what you get for $25. We'll certainly be needing to buy more ammo as well.

lots of Free Software activities

We've got lot's of activities coming up.

GNU/Linux security class starting the first week of June.

The Ubuntu desktop class continues on Wednesday at the west side meeting.

Geek paintball at xtreme-pursuit at noon on June 14th. We're working on a group rate, so contact me if you'd like to participate.
